Imran Khan, the leader of the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) and a former prime minister, has been given a second opportunity by the Islamabad police to appear before the joint investigation team (JIT) in a terrorism case.
According to information, the former premier has received a second notice from the federal capital police requesting that he appear before JIT at the Margalla police station at 5:00 pm.
Imran Khan was granted pre-arrest and temporary bail with the stipulation that he appear before the investigators or an investigating team and cooperate with them, according to the police notification.
In an earlier police probe into a terrorist complaint filed against him for allegedly threatening Judge Zeba Chauhdry, the Islamabad High Court (IHC) PTI Chairman was invited to participate.
According to specifics, the appeal contesting the terrorist case filed against the former premier for allegedly intimidating a female judge and senior members of the Islamabad police was considered by IHC Chief Justice Athar Minallah and Judge Saman Rafat.
It is important to note that Imran Khan's pre-arrest interim bail in a terrorism case was extended by an Anti-Terrorism Court (ATC) till September 12.
The notice was issued today after the PTI chairman neglected to show up in the case filed against him for allegedly intimidating lower court judge Zeba Chaudhry before the JIT at the Margalla Police Station.
Khan should come before the investigation team at 5 p.m. today to ensure that he responds to its inquiries because the notice stated that he is out on bail in the case through September 12.
The former prime minister was additionally requested by the Islamabad High Court (IHC) earlier this week to make sure that he assists the police in their investigation of the matter.
Despite the fact that Khan did not show up before the JIT, he responded on Friday via his attorney, arguing that the threats made against a female judge at a rally do not constitute "terrorism" and that the matter should be dropped because he is "innocent."
Khan told the JIT, "I am the chairman of Tehreek-e-Insaf, I was the prime minister of Pakistan, and the report filed in the Islamabad High Court established the torture of Shahbaz Gill. The government tortured [my assistant] Shahbaz Gill because of political opposition.
According to the PTI leader, what he stated in the speech cannot be classified as terrorism because he did not damage anyone or engage in any unlawful activity.
In accordance with the Anti-Terrorism Act (ATA), a first information report (FIR) was filed on August 21 against the former prime minister for threatening the extra sessions judge and senior Islamabad Police officials during a rally in the federal capital's F-9 Park.
At the Margalla Police Station in Islamabad, the FIR was filed in response to the magistrate Ali Javed's complaint in accordance with Section 7 of the ATA.
Following this, Khan was able to get transit bail from the IHC until August 25 but was instructed to contact the ATC as it was the appropriate forum. The interim bail in the terrorism case was subsequently extended by the trial court until September 12.
