iOS 16 comes with lots of love for Apple’s Photos app and one of the useful new additions is a built-in duplicate finder. Here’s how it works to use the new feature to delete duplicate iPhone photos a few at a time or in large batches.
Along with the simplicity of taking quite high-quality photos with an iPhone, it's simple to let our photo library fill up with numerous pictures, some of which may be duplicates.
The best option up until now has been to try and stop duplication by using a third-party software, but that can be a complicated process with costly apps or apps that might not function as well as advertised, etc.
With iOS 16, Apple now provides a built-in tool that is incredibly simple to use for finding and deleting duplicate iPhone images.
Apple explains the combine duplicates feature as follows:
"Merging" creates a single, high-quality photo from pertinent information like captions, keywords, and likes. The merged photo is added to albums that have duplicates that have been combined.
Apple adds that if you wish to see what's being deleted or retrieve any photos, the deleted duplicates will appear in the Recently Deleted album.
Procedure To Delete Duplicate Iphone Images Using The iOS 16 Tool:
1. open the native Photos app on an iPhone running iOS 16
2. At the bottom, select the Albums tab.
3. Swipe down from the main Albums panel.
4. Tap Duplicates in the Utilities section.
5. To remove duplicate iPhone photographs, review duplicate matches and tap Merge.
6. Additionally, you can select All using the top-right corner's Select option, or you can select several duplicates to merge them at once.
7. Additionally, you may tap any of the duplicate ideas to go to the location where they are in your Photos Library and see how similar they are up close.
We have had great success with the new functionality thus far. Regarding deletion recommendations, it does appear to be less forceful than those made by third-party programmes, which is probably related to its accuracy.
On an iPhone, the procedure appears as follows:
If you choose to merge/delete duplicates per instance found by iOS 16, tap the Merge button on the right-hand side to approve, then tap “Merge X Duplicates.”
One neat aspect of the feature is each photo includes the size in the bottom-right corner so you can quickly see how much space you may be saving.
