ISLAMABAD: According to Pakistan's defence minister Khawaja Asif on Saturday, Russian President Vladimir Putin has given wheat in addition to gas supplies in consideration of the harm done to the nation's food supply by the disastrous floods.

Asif added that the visit would happen and that the Russian president has also invited the prime minister.

They claimed they could provide us with gas. According to Russia, there are gas pipelines in Central Asian nations that might be extended to reach Pakistan via Afghanistan. There have been these discussions.

The defence minister added that Pakistan's position on the continuing war in Ukraine has been well received by Russia.

He added that during the first week of November, Chinese President Xi Jinping will invite Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif to make his first trip to China.

The invitation, according to the defence minister, was extended by President Xi at a meeting the two leaders had in Samarkand, Uzbekistan, before the Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO) conference.

Asif noted that the meeting between the prime minister and the president of China went very well. He claimed that President Xi pledged to move the China-Pakistan Economic Corridor (CPEC) project forward and referred to Pakistan as a "all-weather strategic buddy."

All SCO members have expressed a desire to assist Pakistan as it battles terrible floods, Asif said in his closing remarks.

The change occurs as efforts are being made to mend the strained ties between Pakistan and the US.

While the US President Joe Biden Administration approved the $450 million sale of the F-16 equipment as an indication that Washington wants to continue a working relationship with Islamabad, a key assistant to the US secretary of state recently visited Islamabad.

Shehbaz's meetings with Russian President Vladimir Putin on Thursday and Chinese President Xi Jinping on Friday are noteworthy amid all of this and demonstrate the effort Pakistan is making to preserve a delicate balance in its relations with other nations.

The transcript of the discussion between Putin and Shehbaz revealed that Russia was anxious to strengthen ties with Pakistan. At the same time, President Xi described Shehbaz as "a guy of pragmatism and efficiency" during their first encounter.

Shehbaz praised Putin as well, referring to Russia as a "superpower" and its leader as a "man of words." The Russian president recalled his working relationship with his older brother, Nawaz Sharif, when he was the prime minister as he introduced himself to Shehbaz.

According to observers, Shehbaz's flurry of meetings with the leaders of China and Russia showed that Pakistan's policy, which seeks to diversify the country's options for foreign policy, is still in place.
