IRAN: On Thursday, protests against the murder of a young lady in police custody persisted in various towns around the country, according to state TV and social media, while a human rights organisation said that 83 people had been slain in nearly two weeks of rallies.

Mahsa Amini, 22, of the Iranian Kurdish village of Saqez, was detained this month in Tehran by the morality police, who uphold the Islamic Republic's rigorous dress code for women. She was accused of wearing "unsuitable apparel."

Her passing has caused Iran's first significant outcry since authorities put down demonstrations against an increase in gasoline prices in 2019.

The #IranProtests have resulted in the deaths of at least 83 individuals, including children, according to Iran Human Rights, a nonprofit with a Norwegian base.

Videos released on Twitter showed protesters demanding the overthrow of the religious system in Tehran, Qom, Rasht, Sanandaj, Masjed-i-Suleiman, and other places despite the rising death toll and a harsh crackdown by the government.

State television said without providing numbers that police had detained numerous "rioters."

The Committee to Protect Journalists announced on Twitter that it had learnt security forces had detained at least 28 journalists as of September 29. Rights groups reported that scores of activists, students, and artists had been imprisoned.

Following Amini's passing, the German foreign minister stated on Thursday that she wanted the European Union to impose sanctions on Iran.

Several people attempted to enter the Iranian embassy in Oslo, Norway, during a raging protest in which two persons received minor injuries, according to Norwegian police. According to NRK, 95 persons were detained by the police.

The turmoil, according to President Ebrahim Raisi, is the most recent action by adversarial Western powers against Iran since its Islamic revolution in 1979.

Raisi stated on state television that "the adversaries have made computation errors in the face of Islamic Iran for 43 years, believing that Iran is a weak country that can be conquered."
